Worlds in Windrose
Your server can hold any number of worlds and runs one of them, the Active world. The server creates the first world at its first start, and every world is in the table of the World tab.
Windrose saves each world as zip files it writes within a minute of any change during play, and the newest is the file whose name ends in _Latest.zip. At every start, Windrose builds the world from that file.
World preset
The World preset field in the World tab has four choices:
- Easy: enemy health 0.7, enemy damage 0.6, enemy ship health 0.7, enemy ship damage 0.6, boarding difficulty 0.7, and easy combat.
- Medium: enemy health, enemy damage, enemy ship health, enemy ship damage and boarding difficulty all at 1, and normal combat.
- Hard: enemy health 1.5, enemy damage 1.25, enemy ship health 1.5, enemy ship damage 1.25, boarding difficulty 1.5, and hard combat.
- Custom: you set each value yourself from the list below.
Custom values
- Shared co-op quests: on by default. When a player finishes a co-op quest, it completes for every player online who has the same quest.
- Immersive exploration: off by default. When it's on, the markers that point to places of interest disappear, so exploring is harder.
- Enemy health: 0.2 to 5.0.
- Enemy damage: 0.2 to 5.0.
- Enemy ship health: 0.4 to 5.0.
- Enemy ship damage: 0.2 to 2.5.
- Boarding difficulty: 0.2 to 5.0. It sets how many sailors you have to defeat to win a boarding fight.
- Co-op enemy scaling: 0.0 to 2.0, default 1.0. It adjusts enemy health and how fast enemies lose their balance by the number of players on the server.
- Co-op enemy ship scaling: 0.0 to 2.0, default 0.0. It adjusts enemy ship health by the number of players on the server.
- Combat difficulty: easy, normal or hard. It sets how hard boss fights are and how aggressive enemies are in general.
Changing any value switches World preset to Custom.
When they apply
World settings apply to the Active world at the next start, because Windrose reads them only as it starts. If your server is stopped, we write them into the world's file as soon as you save. If it's running, we write them before the next start. Press Apply and restart to apply them now.
Switch between worlds
Every world in the table has an Activate button. If your server is running, we stop it, activate the world, and start the server again on it. We don't take a backup before the switch, so take one first if your current world matters to you. The old world stays exactly as it is, so activate it again whenever you like.
Create a new world
Press Create world, type a name and pick a preset. Windrose creates the new world at the next start and it becomes the Active world, and the name and preset you picked apply at the start after that. Your current world stays in the table.
Move a world from your PC or another server
A Windrose world moves as one zip file: the file whose name ends in _Latest.zip.
The world you played on your own PC is in:
%localappdata%\R5\Saved\SaveProfiles
Open your profile folder (on Stove it's StoveDefault), then RocksDB_v2_Backups, then the game version folder, then Worlds, then the world's folder, and take the file whose name ends in _Latest.zip.
- Close Windrose on your PC first, so it writes a last copy of the world
- Stop your server, because a world can't be uploaded while it runs
- Press Upload world in the World tab and pick the zip file
- Press Activate on the world once it appears in the table
- Start your server, and Windrose builds the world from the file
To move a world off your server, press Download on its row in the table, and you get that same _Latest.zip file.
Delete a world
Press Delete on the world's row. You can't delete the Active world, so activate another one first, then delete it. We don't take a backup before the delete, so take one first if you might want the world back. If your server is running, we stop it and start it again for you.
World backups
Windrose keeps older dated copies of the Active world, and you'll find them in the World backups table of the World tab:
- Download: you get the copy's file.
- Restore: the world goes back to that copy. We keep the current copy under a dated name before the restore, so you can go back to it from the same table. If your server is running, we stop it and start it again for you.
Copies Windrose marked as broken can't be restored. For your server's full backups, see the backups guide.
